The INTERNATIONAL EXTRADITION LAWYERS & EXPERTS ASSOCIATION (IELEA) - ASOCIACIÓN INTERNACIONAL DE ABOGADOS Y EXPERTOS EN EXTRADICIONES (in Spanish), is a non-profit association whose purpose is to create a network of professionals highly specialised in the field of extradition law in Spain and internationally.
It was founded by Luis Chabaneix, a renowned defence lawyer in extradition cases since 2008, and Carlos Miguel Bautista Samaniego, a lawyer and prosecutor on leave of absence (32 years in the force and nearly 20 of them in the National Court – Audiencia Nacional), who has been in charge of coordinating extraditions and European arrest warrants.
The INTERNATIONAL EXTRADITION LAWYERS & EXPERTS ASSOCIATION aims to promote the highest standards of quality, reform and good practice in the work of legal practitioners in the field of extradition, fostering respect for human rights in accordance with international conventions.
To this end, it will seek collaboration and communication, to the extent of its capabilities, with public and private actors such as public administrations, professional associations and similar organizations within its field of activity.
Also, in line with its commitment to training in extradition law and international human rights law, which is essential for its organisational aspirations, it aims to organise conferences, webinars and all kinds of debates, as well as publishing articles in digital format relating to legal news and opinions on relevant cases, regulatory changes and jurisprudential trends within the passive extradition procedure.
